What is Free Space Path Loss?
Free space path loss is an estimation of signal loss between two antennas in an air medium. While other factors will come into play (obstructions, etc), this is a great way to calculate whether or not your signal will be received on the other end. Free space path loss is also frequency dependent. This means, the higher the frequency, the higher the loss.
We use this calculation, in conjunction with antenna gains and RF power, in our Link Budget Calculator.
